Overseas Korean Camp day 3

In front of the Nanta Academy

Today is the day we would see the live performance of 난타 (Nanta). I have seen it in Denmark some years ago and it was a bit difficult explaining the show to Laust and Ida-Marie, they just have to see it I said.

The show premiered back in 1997 and got it’s international debut in 1997. It is the longest running show in Korea history and is popular for comedy performed in a non-verbal and acrobatic fashion.

Before going to the show we just had to the day’s Korean lessons. On our way from the dorm to the campus we noticed the warning sign placed on the pavement when nearing the crossing. I guess this would be a good idea in Denmark as well. The main building of HUFS does always look stunning in the sunlight.

This is the 2nd day with Korean lessons and the kids were slowly getting to know their teachers and each others.

Today’s menu was at a Korean restaurant next to the campus.

Next stop Nanta theater in Myeongdong. We all got our green T-shirts on as got onboard the bus which would take us to Myeongdong. Water was always provided and at the start of the day they were deep frozen. This way we had ice in the beginning of the day and cold water later on. I was vey excited about watching the Nanta show live her in Seoul. Our group was no. 6 and we always had our sign high in the sky.

Finally, for the first time we are in the Nanta theater. This picture was taken during the introduction and warm up as it was not allowed to take pictures during the performance.

The show was just as I remembered even though I had forgot some of scenes. We all enjoyed it very much and the content was easy to understand as it is very visually. Also the drums and the rhythm were very enjoyable.

After the show we were split up into two groups. Our group walked down to 아르코미술관 (Arko Art Gallery), just 10mins from Myeongdong. The exhibition shows Korean contemporary art. The architect of the building was Kim Soogeun and the red brick building has become a landmark of 대학로(Daehak-ro).

Here we spend some time exploring the exhibition and enjoying a nice ice cream.

After the ice cream break we headed towards the Nanta Academy for a real Nanta experience. Here we got training with one of the actors from the show “Mr. sexy guy”. At first we were taught the different rhythm and slowly we got into more complex drumming. This was a great experience both trying the drums ourselves and see the actor perform up close.

We were not allowed to take or record any videos during the show, but here are some videos from the academy.

For dinner we would have 삼계탕 (Korean ginseng chicken soup) at a Michelin rated restaurant in Bukchon.

The dish consists of a small chicken stuffed with rice, ginseng, garlic, and  jujube. When you open up the chicken all the flavors of the spices flow into the soup and it tastes just deliciously. The tradition is to have this in the hottest days of summer, which matched the weather very well.

After yet a long day filled with good memories we would take a late night snack at Starbucks. Even though it was late and we had to get up early again tomorrow this was a good way to get some family time just the three of us. We did a few pages in our diary and called it a day.

Relaxing and having a late night snack
