Today would be our final full day here in the camp enjoying the company of our new friends. As we approached the Cyber building to gather for the last time we were met with another sign of closure. This Friday was also graduation day and along the entry of HUFS flower stands were being set up to greet family and friends of the future graduated.

Our breakfast were served in the cafe next door, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. We had the usual, toast scone and a smoothie.

Today’s trip was a “Next-generation field day” and we were curious to see what it was about. Our bus took us to 장충체육관 (Jangchung Arena) which is an indoor sporting arena. This complex was used during the 1988 Summer Olympics for hosting Taekwondo and Judo events. Our events would take place in the Sub Gym where the aircondition ensured a nice cool temperature in the humid Korean sunshine.

For the next couple of hours we would compete in different Korean games.

가위 바위 보 (Rock, paper, scissors)

It started out with all versus all and the losers should form the tail from the winner. Lines would rapidly grow as people would win or lose and eventually there would be a showdown between to combatants. This was very fun and nobody stood still as we were all chasing one another.

투호 (Pitch pot)

This is at traditional game where sticks are thrown into a pot from a distance.

제기차기 (Foot juggling)

We received a small 제기 which should be kept in the air only using out feet. It was like juggling with a ball just smaller.

We would also play a game of charades with Korean words and there was a skipping rope contest.

We had lunch in the room next to the gym. We received a small picnic box with different kinds of meat and vegetables.

After the break a group demonstrated the traditional Korean Fan Dance. This was very beautiful. After the demonstration it was our turn to practice. We were each given a pair of fans and some instructions. This was very tough both keeping up with the pace and keeping our hands in the right positions.

Returning to the campus we only had one last activity which was the closing ceremony

Returning to HUFS for the closing ceremony.

We were all seated in the hall where speeches from both OKF and HUFS were given. Each one of us were called to the stage to receive our diploma for the Summer Camp.

In addition to the formalities there would also be some performances. The adults did a live performance of 아리랑 (Arirang) by BTS and the children performed Baby Shark. Solo performances were given by both volunteers and participants as well.

After the show were had dinner in the Sky Lounge a final time where we all enjoyed the fine Korean banquet.

After the closing ceremony we had all agreed to have a beer and some soju. We would enjoy a couple of hours in a nearby bar with the decan and representative from OKF which gave a great opportunity to share a few words and expressing my gratitude for having joined the camp.
