Overseas Korean Camp day 9

In front of HUFS carrying our pizza

Today would be the day we should all say goodbye to our home for the last week, the camp and all our new friends. Even though we returned home from a late night out yesterday we still got up at the usual time greeted by the hot Korean summer sun. Today’s activities were to meetup at the campus to make the final survey about the camp. Some farewell speeches and the final hugs were given.

Pizza were ordered for lunch. We took ours back to the dorm to pack the final suitcases as my sister’s husband would come and take us to One Mount Water Park. Our flight back to Denmark was at midnight so I was looking into how we could spend our last day. As it was in the middle of the summer I thought it would be a good idea to make a retreat to a water park just the three of us after being extremely busy fro the past 7 days. but before departure we had to find room for all of our stuff somewhere in our luggage.

One Mount Water Park

One mount water park is located in Goyang in the western part of Seoul. I was told it would be crowed as it is peak season, but I thought it would be a nice way to end our trip here i Seoul. Upon reaching the park we saw cars queuing up in front of the building so we decided to park a few street from the entrance. We headed for the entrance and after payment we entered the water park.

It consists of two parts, one indoor water park and on the roof was an outdoor area with slides. Peak season really means all inhabitants of Seoul flock to the water park, it was completely crowded. In the biggest pool, it was actually difficult to find a free spot and people everywhere. Everyone had to wear a swim vest and cap, so did we.

We quickly found our way to the outdoor area to get some fresh air. Here we tried a few of the smaller slides an got a snack. We were also in line for one of the big ones, but after 40 minutes er decided to go with the less crowded ones.

In the evening we were picked up again and we drove to a restaurant to meet up with the rest of the family to have a farewell dinner. The restaurant was a big sushi place which a huge selection of different kinds of sushi as well as other servings and desserts.

Enjoying sushi with the family

After dinner we took one last stop at Mi’s house before going to the airport. Here we had a cup of coffee and my birthday was celebrated with a nice cake.

I think having picked a midnight departure was very well planned as it was tough to let go of all our Korean connections. I am really glad that we had a chance to spend our final moments together with our family. I was also very surprised for the small cake celebration for my birthday at their house.

Enjoying time together with my family

After saying goodbye and thanking for a really wonderful stay we reached the airport which also marked the end of our journey.

All three of us had a really great time with the camp and seeing our family again. Throughout the days in Korea I think we had a feeling of profound happiness. We did not have to think about our daily chores. We only had to focus on next thing on the daily schedule and enjoy it. A very big thanks to Overseas Korean Foundation for arranging the camp and also for all the teachers and the volunteers who made  the camp an unforgettable 9 days of our lives.
