Around Chungmuro station
Today is the day we are joining the “2019 Intensive Korean Camp for Next-generation Overseas Koreans” at noon. Our plan was to have a relaxed morning getting all of our souvenirs safely packed in our bags and then go for the metro to Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS). Just before we said goodbye to the apartment Ida-Marie and I took a short walk around in the neighborhood.
Before taking the subway we stopped by Caffe Bene to grab a bite and say a propper goodbye to the place and surroundings where we spend our first two days of our trip.
Finalizing our food, Laust’s favorite toast and bagels for Ida-Marie and me, and then we took off for the camp. Getting there was easy as the subway was just outside the café and some 30 min later we arrived at the subway station and from there the university was only a 5-minute walk.

Welcoming banner
Above the entrance to the campus there was a big banner welcoming all of the families to the camp. It was with some anxiety we approached the registration table and looked around to see the other families. We were taken to the dorm where we should stay for the next 1,5 weeks. It was a newly build dorm located just 5 min. down the road.
At 15:00 we all gathered back at the registration table for a campus tour and an introduction. We passed through the Obama Hall and followed the Obama trail as the former President of the United States back in 2012. We reached a small auditorium where we had the official introduction. Staff and volunteers were introduced. Here we met all of the families which counted 5 Danish and Norwegian and 13 Swedish in total.
The opening ceremony took place in Sky Lounge which is located on the top floor of the main building.

Musical performance by Lee Suyeon
Here we enjoyed some traditional Korean musical performance and listened to the speeches of the chairman of Overseas Korean Foundation and the Decan of HUFS.
When all formalities came to an end we were served a full welcome banquet with a lot of different side dishes. At this point we were all starving, so the all of the different food bites were tasted. Even the big abalone was eaten by Laust. After the dinner we all headed back home to our dorms for a short rest before going to sleep.
After a full day of new friends and impressions we were finally by ourselves in our dorm room. It has a loft with two mattreses where Laust and I would sleep and on the ground floor a single bed which Ida-Marie would claim. The room did not have much floor space but that did not matter as we would not spend too much time there the next 8 days.
We had a game with our galapagos friends themed cards before we turned off the lights.
